The strength of the 20 mm-thick tiles means users can lay them directly onto the laying bed without gluing. This technique is particularly versatile and can be used with most common outdoor laying beds, such as grass, gravel, and sand. The elegance of the 20mm porcelain slabs means users can create stylish designs in both homes and public spaces, quickly and easily, without the need for specialist fitters.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Quick and easy laying
  • Can be changed at any time
  • Reusable and replaceable
  • Excellent water runoff
  • No specialist fitters required
  • No adhesive costs
  • Fewer costs and quicker laying
  • Ready for use right away

RECOMMENDED LOCATIONS:

Private gardens, patios, walkways, street furnishing, public parks, retail and catering premises with outdoor areas, private beaches: decking and walkways

Posa A Secco Su Erba

Dry Laying on Grass

Where there are lawns, be they in public areas or private homes, the tiles must be dry laid on top of this grass without using any building adhesives. This allows users to change the paving at any time, reusing the same material several times. Dry-laying does not require specialist fitters and the tiling is ready for use as soon as the job is finished.

Posa A Secco Su Ghiaia

Dry Laying on Gravel

Apart from the attractive decorative effects that can be created, this system is particularly recommended in areas where drainage of the water in the underlying soil is a problem, and also for cement or concrete laying beds, such as on balconies or terraces.
The tiles can be laid dry by simply placing them on top of the previously prepared gravel base, without the need for building adhesives. This means the tiling is easily levelled out on top of the gravel and is ready for use immediately afterwards.

Posa A Secco Su Sabbia

Dry Laying on Sand

The tiles can be laid dry by simply placing them in the desired position, without the need for building adhesives. This means the tiling is easily levelled out on top of the gravel and is ready for use immediately afterwards. This method does not require specialist fitters and allows users to change the paving at any time or reuse the same material several times, even in different locations.

Laying on Screed with Adhesive

The advanced technical features of the 2 cm-thick collections, combined with an adhesive laying technique in screed, allow users to create perfectly stable and exceptionally hard-wearing surfaces. The 20mm slabs used with this solution can withstand both moving and parked vehicles.
Ideal for heavily frequented city areas, in particular for squares, pavements, or cycle paths.

Raised Laying with Support

20mm porcelain stoneware slabs can be used in conjunction with a support framework consisting of polypropylene bearing struts.
The support is fully adjustable and allows the creation, on any substrate, of raised floors, allowing for the installation of electrical and water systems in the cavity below.

The 2cm raised installation system is ideal for outdoor projects completed with light effects and irrigation systems. The ease of assembly and disassembly of the overhead system allows you to change the configuration of the underlying systems at any time according to the needs. In any case, the installation of elevated floors requires the supervision of a professional to verify that the installation complies with the regulations in force in each country.

Grid 20mm - System for raised floors for use outdoors

An innovative and practical laying system for use with raised floors.

The system comprises a polypropylene support frame which holds the 20mm porcelain stoneware tiles produced by Ceramiche Keope and heightadjustable pedestals.
This means that different sized tiles can be laid together, with the utmost safety standards and without the need for any reinforcement on the back of the slabs.
Since the tiles can be shaped during laying, the system is easy to fit and suitable for any laying design. The height-adjustable pedestals also ensure perfectly flat surfaces.

Grid 20Mm

ADVANTAGES:

  • Fast to fit and remove
  • Stability and safety of the floor’s surface
  • Height adjustable supports from 50 to 300mm for perfectly flat surfaces
  • Multi-size laying patterns
  • Resistant to thermal shock (-20 °C / +60 °C) and atmospheric agents
  • Resistant to loads without any reinforcement on the back of the slabs
  • Resistant to acids and alkali
  • Support made from 100% recycled material

K-deck

Living and reinventing outdoor spaces with Keope porcelain tiles: this is K Deck, the innovative raised installation system that exploits the simplicity of the decking system for installing 2-cm thick planks and slabs.

K Deck

A simple and economical system, which is particularly suitable for commercial and residential outdoor spaces because it is easy to clean and, thanks to the possibility of lifting the slabs at any time, makes it possible to inspect the systems and pipes that may be present in the substrate.

The system consists of: adjustable modular supports that can reach a maximum height of 30 cm; aluminium joists for safe installation of the material; anti-noise rubber sheath to be applied to the aluminium joists. The structure can also be closed laterally, creating a vertical covering, with the help of special clips.

The K Deck system can only be applied to 2-cm thick outdoor porcelain tiles fitted with the double reinforcing fibre glass mesh.

Warnings

Dry laying 20mm tiles

Outdoor floorings dry laid at high altitude are subject to the action of the wind, with the risk of the tiles lifting. The producer recommends the checking of the suitability of the laying system at altitude by a qualified technician on the basis of local regulations in force and the conditions of use, in order to avoid the risk of harm and damage to people and things.

A ceramic slab laid on a raised floor system may break upon impact if a heavy object falls on it from a certain height, with the risk of serious damage for whoever is standing on or crossing the slab. Failed compliance with the instructions provided by the producer with relation to laying on elevated floor systems could cause serious harm to people.

Instructions for Customers and Designers

When the application of 20mm slabs involves the use of the ceramic product in structural terms, the designer and/or customer is recommended to carry out a careful evaluation of the project requirements in relation to the technical characteristics of the slabs. Specifically, in order to avoid the risk of harm to people or damage to objects, the producer recommends:

  • If the application involves a raised laying, taking account of the fact that a tile may break further to a heavy object falling on it, to check beforehand the specific intended use and to comply with the table of instructions for raised laying (page 380) in which, in certain conditions, the application of a reinforcement on the back of the tile is recommended (mesh plus or galvanized steel) provided by the producer.
  • With reference to flooring installed at altitude, with any dry laying system, to comply with the specific regulations and local conditions of use regarding, among other things, by way of example, the action of the wind, the structural load, seismic events, etc.
  • Failed compliance with the above recommendations could lead to improper use of the product and cause serious harm or damage to people or things.

WARNING:

It is advisable to provide for appropriate transversal and longitudinal slopes to be created during levelling or compaction to obtain an optimal drainage of the walking surface. It is recommended to develop a substrate made with draining materials to facilitate the flow of water and avoid its accumulation. In addition, a laying with a minimum joint of 3 mm is recommended. Given the frost-resistant quality of porcelain stoneware, the 20mm series has practically zero absorption of water. This property could lead to stagnant water on the flooring, regardless of a proper laying of the material.

Additional warning for dry laying

For particular requests and in order to have specific information regarding the double glass fibre or galvanised steel sheet to be glued on the back, contact Ceramiche Keope’s technical department. For details regarding products in 20mm and 30mm thickness, and regarding the relative laying systems, and in particular, for recommendations, hints, use limitations and precautions during laying, it is recommended to refer to Ceramiche Keope’s 20mm catalogue on the keope.com website or to contact Ceramiche Keope’s technical office.

Note: Ceramiche Keope is only liable in the event that it supplies the entire system (tile + double fiberglass mesh plus or steel sheet). Ceramiche Keope cannot be held liable for slab reinforcement systems that it has not supplied. A slab must be replaced immediately in the event of breakage.
